'Can't Count On Anybody...'

Ariel put her hands to her mouth. "Your sister was abused by your own father?!"
"I'm afraid so," answered Scar. "A year ago, my sisters and I were taking a walk through the Green Hill Zone when we came across this green adult hedgehog apparently having a doze under a nearby tree. Mika was the first to recognise him as Dad, but she was so shocked by our discovery that she shouted out his name - and of course when he woke up, he was in such a temper that none of the rest of us dared go near him.
"Immediately he stood himself up, glared at Mika and demanded to know what we were doing away from home, to which Mika nervously told him why we had run away. That didn't go down well with Dad, however; 'So you have the nerve to call me a flaming murderer, you insulting little furball!!' he bellowed at her. 'You watch your mouth, you despicable brat!'
"'But you did!' protested Mika. 'You stabbed her with a kitchen knife right before our eyes!'
"'And what right does that give you to leave the house without being told?!'
"'You never cared for us, Dad! All you worried about was hurting Mom and getting drunk - you never even had any time for me when I was little!' wailed Mika. 'Even when Mom said she didn't want us, you never said anything about taking care of any of us! How could we possibly count on either of you to...'
"But before she could finish, Dad swiped Mika so hard that he sent her flying down the hill. Lisa and Emerald stood petrified, while I ran to where Mika landed; and I tell you what, I could actually feel her agony as I knelt by her side to check how badly she had been hurt. It brought tears to my eyes for what I imagine must have been the few times in my life.
"Though I wasn't looking, I could sense that Dad was glowering upon all four of us. 'Exactly!' he snarled. 'You twerps can't count on anybody, and why should you?! You never deserved it in the first place!'"
